(Good For 1 Loaf Of Bread)

Moosomin being the centre of a large area was growing quite rapidly so in 1908 George H. Hewitt felt that the town could support another bakery so he started up down the street from Endicott. However, he found the competition too tough and in 1911 he closed the bakery.

Three scallop shapes have been counterstamped into the obverse.

When You Want A Good Thing Go To Whyte & Co. Moosomin, Assa.
(Good For 2.00 In Merchandise)

Andy Whyte arrived in Moosomin in 1889 and seeing the potential of the area, went back East and made arrangements for financing a departmental store. As a result Whyte & Co. started business in the fall of 1890 as a general store with plans to build a large departmental store in the near future. However, the volume was not up to expectations and the store was sold in 1910 to J. Burgoyne. These tokens are listed by McColl and he states that 105 were struck in each denomination in aluminum, 5 each in brass, copper and white metal, but no mention was made of the $2.00 token. To date it appears that the aluminum tokens are scarcer than any of the others. Tokens were issued around 1893 and were still in use when the store was sold.

When You Want A Good Thing Go To Whyte & Co. Moosomin, Assa.
(Good For 5 In Merchandise)

Myord
W.H. Skeele General Merchant Myord, Sask.
(Good For 25¢ In Merchandise)

After searching all available records for a number of years have not found a settlement called Myord, but in the search came across a Wilbur H. Skeele, a merchant at Lajord. Mr. Skeele started the general store in 1911, coming from Ontario and continued in business until 1923 when he sold out and moved to California. Several old-timers in the area remember Skeele and the tokens so it is quite possible that there is a misprint on the token and it should have been Lajord instead of Myord.

Nokomis
Nokomis Bakery P. Campbell Prop.
(Good For One Loaf)

Peter Campbell came over from Scotland in 1911 to visit his brother at Nokomis. The new country fascinated him so much that he decided to stay, so he purchased the bakery from Henderson McDougall in 1912. He expanded the store in 1915 as he needed larger premises for his bakery, flour and feed and ice cream store. Tokens were issued in 1916 and were used until 1925 when the business was sold to Arthur Nickel. All tokens but 4 were destroyed at this time.
