The Saskatoon Brewing Co. Ltd.
(Good For One Only)

In 1907 John Hoeschen along with Fred Wentzler and Ben Hoeschen began construction on a brewery after testing the water in Saskatoon and seeing the small real estate boom that was happening. The first brew of beer was made on December 21, 1907 under the name The Hoeschen-Wentzler Brewing Company Limited.

By 1912 Wentzler disposed of his share of the business. In 1915 during a major expansion to the business, prohibition was announced. In 1916 the name of the company was changed to the Saskatoon Brewing Company Limited following a trend of removing German names from businesses during World War 1.

By 1918 John Hoeschen disposed of practically all of his stock.
The brewery continued to operate and thrive until it was bought out by Labatt's in 1960. The plant was demolished in 1993.

Saskatoon Shrine Club (Logo) Wa-Wa Temple
(You {Arrow} Pay)

In 1950 the Saskatoon Shrine Club obtained 5,000 tokens, as an advertising stunt and were thrown out at a parade in Minneapolis. A number were brought home and were used at the bar for a short time, good for one drink - but there were not enough to handle the demand so this was discontinued and the tokens discarded.
